The New York State Education Department (“SED”) Office of the Professions (“OP”) is alerting everyone to a vishing scam that has been brought to our attention. Phishing—or “vishing”—scams impersonate SED employees or websites attempting to collect licensure and personal information from the licensee. If you receive an inquiry which you believe to be suspicious do not provide any information. To verify if the inquiry was from OP, contact OP directly using the following contact information. You may report suspicious calls or emails to the Federal Trade Commission.

Request for Certification/Verification for Land Surveying

In New York State (NYS) the terms "certification" and "verification" may differ from those utilized in your jurisdiction. It is important you understand NYS’s terminology so the correct request is submitted.

  1. Request for Certification of Licensure 

    To request certification of licensure in New York State please complete and submit the Online License Certification and Verification Form and fee. Payment can only be made by credit card (MasterCard, Visa, or American Express). The certification of licensure includes information pertaining to professional school(s) attended, results of any professional examinations taken in NYS that are required for licensure, status of registration, and information related to professional misconduct, if applicable. 
  1. Request for Verification of Licensure/Letter of Good Standing 

    You can view an official online verification of any New York State professional license at no cost by using our Online Verification Service. You can also search our Enforcement Actions for any disciplinary information on licensees. To request an official written statement of this information (including disciplinary actions) please complete and submit the Online License Certification and Verification Form and fee. Payment can only be made by credit card (MasterCard, Visa, or American Express). 

Please note : For items 3 and 4 below, do not send cash, make checks or money order payable to the New York State Education Department and your cancelled check is your receipt.

  1. Request for Certification of Successful Completion of Licensure Examination(s) to another Jurisdiction and you are not licensed in New York:

    To request certification of successful completion of licensure examination(s) and verification that an Intern Engineer or Intern Land Surveyor certificate has been issued (if applicable), send a written request identifying your name, date of birth, social security number, where the certification needs to be sent, and a fee of $20 to the following address:

  2. Request for a copy of your Intern Engineer or Intern Land Surveyor Certificate

    To request a copy of your Intern Engineer or Intern Land Surveyor Certificate, send a written request that includes your name, date of birth, the certificate required, where the certificate needs to be sent, and a fee of $10 to the address below.
