The New York State Education Department (“SED”) Office of the Professions (“OP”) is alerting everyone to a vishing scam that has been brought to our attention. Phishing—or “vishing”—scams impersonate SED employees or websites attempting to collect licensure and personal information from the licensee. If you receive an inquiry which you believe to be suspicious do not provide any information. To verify if the inquiry was from OP, contact OP directly using the following contact information. You may report suspicious calls or emails to the Federal Trade Commission.

Technically, a P.C. or D.P.C. (with the exception of Public Accountancy) are not renewed, however a triennial statement is routinely mailed to a P.C. or D.P.C. and must be returned to the Department in a timely manner. You can read more about the triennial statement for a P.C. at Section III Domestic Professional Service Corporations (PC) and for a D.P.C. at Section IV Foreign Professional Service Corporations (PC). Technically, a Foreign Professional Corporation (with the exception of Public Accountancy) is not renewed, however on or before July 1 of each year, every foreign professional service corporation must furnish a statement and fee to the Department. Firms are required to renew their registration every 3 years on the CPA Form 6T – CPA Firm Triennial Registration. Firms are required to provide an annual firm update on CPA Form 6PR – Peer Review, Competency, and Annual Statements and, as applicable, a CPA Form 6C – Certification of Ownership and Attest Competency. The Department mails out triennial renewals and annual updates 60 days prior to the due date.
